LIVERMORE FALLS — Four candidates are running for two seats on the Board of Selectmen in Tuesday’s election. 

Voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 9 at the Town Office.

Chairwoman Louise Chabot, 75, is being challenged by former Chairman William Demaray, 62, for a three-year term. 

Former Selectman Jeff Bryant, 49, and Budget Committee member Ronnalean Sanborn, 73, are vying for a two-year seat held by Laurie Sanborn.

Sanborn is running unopposed for a seat on the Regional School Unit 73 board of directors.

RSU 73 board member Jackie Knight is unopposed for another three-year term on the board. 

Ronnalean Sanborn said she is running because she believes if she is going to complain about municipal matters, she should try to do something about it. The River Road resident is retired from the shoe industry and was a social worker at a Canton nursing home.

Of concern, she said, is the amount of money the board is spending. She believes municipal employees should pay part of their health insurance coverage premiums. She said if she is elected, she will try to make a change in municipal budgets.

Bryant, an employee of the Hannaford Distribution Center in Winthrop, served two years on the board from 2011-13. 

Of concern to him is the status of the fire station. He believes one public service building to house the fire and police departments, the Town Office and the Highway Department could be a good, cost-saving action.

He also advocates setting up capital reserve accounts to pay for major pieces of equipment.

Chabot said she wants to continue some of the many projects and objectives happening in town. She has been on the board six years and is retired from an accounting position at International Paper. She is looking forward to continuing or completing several projects now in the works, such as new purposes for the two former RSU 73 school buildings recently acquired, new enterprises about to take shape and projects that could be funded by tax-incentive financing deals.

Demaray was on the board for 12 years, six as chairman. He is an automobile service manager for a local company.

“I want to keep taxes low,” he said. “I am concerned that they keep going up. I’m also concerned about the condition of town buildings, particularly the fire station.”

He also believes the board should be more in control of the town.

“It seems they aren’t as on top of things as they should be and the town doesn’t seem to be as open as they should,” he said. “With my knowledge and experience, I would be of help.”
