NEW GLOUCESTER — A Tyler Avenue man was arrested Wednesday and charged with firing a round from a handgun at an ATV rider.
Mark A. Leighton, 58, of 41 Tyler Ave., was charged with reckless conduct with a firearm. He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland and later released on $160 cash bail.
Cumberland County Sheriff’s officials said at about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, the driver of an off-road vehicle reported he was shot at while riding in the area of Tyler Avenue.
Deputies who responded seized a handgun from Leighton as evidence in the case. The shooting remains under investigation. Leighton is scheduled to appear in court to answer the charge on July 15.
