AVON — A Phillips man was injured early Wednesday when the tractor-trailer he was driving north on Route 4 failed to negotiate a sharp turn, causing the truck to tip over and spill its load of logs into the road.

One of the logs went through a window of a nearby house, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said.

Route 4 was shut down for about four hours, he said.

Steven Boyd Jr., 27, of Phillips was traveling north in a Thorndike & Sons of Strong truck when the accident occurred at about 3:30 a.m.

Boyd was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The residents of the home, Lance and Helen Storer, were not injured, Nichols said.

“The biggest thing is everybody is OK,” Helen Storer said. “It is just stuff.”

Deputy Andrew Morgan said excessive speed was a factor in the crash.

The tractor and trailer were destroyed and the house received major damage, he said, including a broken window where the log crashed into the house. According to Nichols, the log went through the house just below a child’s room.

A crew from the company removed the logs and Phillips firefighters assisted at the scene.
