DIXFIELD — The Regional School Unit 10 board on Tuesday overwhelmingly voted to appoint Ann Bell as assistant superintendent, curriculum and instructional coordinator and human resources manager.

Bell, with 30 years of educational experience, is the principal of Telstar Regional High School in Bethel.

She has also served as a sports coach, athletic director and assistant principal at Buckfield Junior Senior High School, and has worked in early childhood and elementary education.

“She’ll be a really good addition,” Superintendent Craig King said. “She has extensive experience with curriculum and has a (Master of Science degree) as a school leader.”

She also operated the Response to Intervention program at Buckfield Junior Senior High School.

“Whoever we hired would be on a learning curve,” King said.

Gloria Jenkins, assistant superintendent and curriculum and assessment coordinator, plans to retire at the end of this school year.

King said the position will be about two-thirds curriculum and assessment coordinator and assistant superintendent, and one-third human resources.

In other matters, the board gave the green light to teachers Beth Edwards and Abby Woods to take a group of grade seven to 12 students to England and France in April 2017. The early approval will enable the students to raise money for the weeklong trip.

Also, the board approved a loan of up to $3 million at 0.83 percent interest to pay staff salaries and other expenses if town assessments have not been received before they are needed.

King also said the first public vote on the proposed $36.71 million budget takes place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, in the Mountain Valley High School gym in Rumford.

RSU 10 is comprised of Rumford, Mexico, Roxbury, Byron, Hanover, Dixfield, Canton, Carthage, Peru, Buckfield, Hartford and Sumner.
