1928 – 2015

BURBANK, Calif. — Robert Carbonneau, 86, of Burbank, Calif., passed away on Monday, May 18, in Burbank.

He was born in Detroit on July 30, 1928, the son of Antonio and Eva (Blanche) Carbonneau of Lewiston, immigrants of Quebec, Canada. His brother was Marc Corb.

He grew up in Lewiston, attending St. Dominic Academy, graduating in 1946. He immediately enlisted in the Army as a medic and was stationed in Japan after the war in the Pacific. He rose to the rank of corporal and was honorably discharged, after which time he attended the University of Maine, where he played hockey. He graduated in 1954 with a degree in economics.

In 1955, he moved to work at General Dynamics in San Diego and a year later, he met the love of his life, Olivia Figueira. They were married six months later — 58 years this September.

In 1958, their first child, Barbara, arrived; John, in 1960; and Rick, in 1963. His family moved to Connecticut as General Dynamics transferred him from 1965 to 1968. Bob was then hired by Lockheed Aircraft, Burbank in 1969, where he worked until retiring in 1992.

In 1970, their fourth child, Mary Eva, arrived. As a 46-year Burbank resident, Bob was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He coached little league baseball and delighted watching his kids’ sports; Vikings football, baseball, softball and gymnastics.

In the 1990s, grandchildren came along from Barbara (Ben Medina) Loli, 24, and Benny Jr., 21; from John (Kathleen), Kevin, 23, Carrie, 21, and Kyle, 17; and from Rick (LaRayne), Jessica, 21, Courtney, 19, Blake, 17, and Bridget, 14.

He loved big band music and walking all over Burbank.

Bob had many cousins, nieces and nephews from Maine and southern and northern California.
