1943 – 2015
WATERVILLE — Sister Jacqueline Koss, CSJ, died Wednesday, May 20, at Mount St. Joseph in Waterville.
She was born Feb. 25, 1943, in Lewiston, the daughter of Herman and Isabelle (Levesque) Koss. Jacqueline attended St. Peter and Paul School and St. Dominic High School in Lewiston. She entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Lyon in 1959 and took her final vows in 1966.
She obtained a CPE degree at Tewksbury Hospital, Mass., in 1976, and a CNA certificate in 1993. She also participated in several enrichment programs: John XXIII Program at Annhurst College, Woodstock, Conn.; Federation Life Program at Regis College, Weston, Mass.; and International Session in Valpre, France.
Sister Jackie taught at Holy Family School in Lewiston and at St. Joseph kindergarten in Auburn. She shared her culinary gifts at St. Joseph Convent, South Berwick; Mount Saint Joseph, Waterville; St. Joseph Provincialate, Winslow; and at the Generalate, France. For several years, she ministered as a CNA at Mount Saint Joseph.
Whether employed in the areas of child care, nursing, service to the elderly or cooking, she took pride and joy in the service, which she rendered with creativity and sincere good humor — qualities so very much appreciated, especially in food management.
In October 2005, she moved to Fontbonne Community, an assisted living unit at Mount Saint Joseph.
She is survived by her sister, Lorraine Gilmore of Poland; brothers, Adrien of Ohatchee, Ala., Leo of Mechanic Falls, Roger of Fulton, Texas, Armand of Skowhegan, David of Corinna, and William of Winslow; and by several nieces and nephews.
The Sisters of Saint Joseph express their gratitude to the nursing staff of Memory Lane at Mount Saint Joseph for the love and care they gave Sister Jackie.
