LIVERMORE FALLS — The Board of Selectmen dedicated the Annual Town Report to Don Simoneau, a veteran who has devoted many hours to improving the town.
Simoneau, of Fayette, has been disabled for many years, but despite that, he has held nearly all seats in American Legion Post 10, served as a veterans’ advocate, and raised funds for many projects. They include the U.S. flags that line the street from downtown to Jay and a campaign to replace a cannon’s wheels in Union Park. He has also worked on many area cemeteries. He heads the Memorial Day Committee and oversaw engraving the names of World War II veterans on the monument in the park.
“He does so much for the community,” Town Manager Kristal Flagg said.
In other matters at the meeting, Flagg said a professional forester will be hired to assess the value of town trees on 93 acres along the Diamond Road. Once assessed, the town may have many of them harvested.
Also, the board:
* Approved purchase of a new Ford pickup truck with plow for $31,673, which will be taken from the highway equipment account;
* Set a special town meeting for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, at the Town Office to update the responsibilities for the maintenance and costs of the sewer plant;
* Announced the Town Office will be closed all day Tuesday, June 9, for the election. In addition to the proposed municipal budget, residents will elect two selectmen and two representatives to the Regional School Unit 73 board; and
* Agreed to give a $250 stipend to the sewer clerk for her extra work when the tax clerk was absent for several weeks this year.
