BRUNSWICK — A Harpswell woman who was allegedly driving impaired and had a child in her car was arrested Monday afternoon at Merrymeeting Plaza on Bath Road.

Kathleen Amy Huff, 47, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs and endangering the welfare of a child.

Huff was stopped by police late Monday afternoon at Zack’s Gifts, Brunswick police Cmdr. Marc Hagan said.

Officers had recently received a report of a vehicle nearly striking pedestrians on Gurnet Road, Hagan said. Brunswick rescue workers went to to Zack’s Gifts to check on a woman reportedly suffering from a medical problem just before 4:30 p.m., he said.

The woman’s license plate matched that from the complaint about erratic driving on Gurnet Road, Hagan said, and officers asked the woman, who had her 10-year-old daughter with her, to undergo a field sobriety test.

Huff was arrested and taken to Cumberland County Jail on $1,000 unsecured bail. The child was released to a family member.

Huff is scheduled to appear in West Bath District Court on July 21.
