LIVERMORE — Spruce Mountain High School class Our Hands-On History will perform a dramatic presentation of “The Washburns in the Civil War: A Hand in Transforming the Nation” from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 18, at Washburn-Norlands Living History Center, 290 Norlands Rd. in Livermore.

For the past year, students in the “Our Hands-On History” class at Spruce Mountain High School in Jay have learned the work of the historian by identifying and scanning documents, photographs and artifacts in the collections at the Washburn-Norlands Living History Center, participating in and facilitating historical book discussions and creating an online exhibit about Livermore’s Washburn family’s role in the Civil War.

The public is invited to see a culmination of their work. Starting in the Norlands’ Farmer’s Cottage, the students will unveil the new exhibit that they have created on the Maine Memory Network, a project of the Maine Historical Society, which provides access to historical items belonging to organizations throughout the state.

After showing the online exhibit, the students will bring the story to life through a dramatic presentation in the church.

The event is free and refreshments will be served.

This year-long Local & Legendary: Maine in the Civil War project was a partnership between the Norlands and Spruce Mountain High School and was sponsored by the Maine Humanities Council and Maine Historical Society.
