ANDOVER — Planning Board Chairman Mark Thurston told selectmen Tuesday night that he will convene the first Comprehensive Plan Committee meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Town Hall.

Board of Selectmen secretary Hope Peterson said Wednesday afternoon that it’s time for the town to revisit its plan. “Ours was developed in 1990 or 1993, so we need to go over it and revamp it,” she said.

In other business, resident Brian Mills met with selectmen and Thurston to address Mills’ concerns with the town victualer’s licensing and site plan review ordinances. Peterson said Mills thought they were too cumbersome and needed to be simplified. The site plan review document is 50 pages.

Selectmen, Peterson said, told Mills there was nothing they can do about it; that it’s a Planning Board matter.

Selectmen also approved a new fraud policy that was tabled at last week’s meeting so Board of Selectmen Chairman Jim Adler could read it. Peterson said it’s the first of five policies the town auditor suggested the town implement. She’s working to create drafts of the other four to put before selectmen.

Apparently, the auditor said having a policy in place would hopefully deter employees and others from trying to defraud Andover.

Mia Purcell, program manager for the Western Maine Economic Development Council and Community Concepts Finance Corp., spoke with selectmen about economic development. Peterson said Purcell suggested that Andover again try to get someone on the River Valley Growth Council board.

Selectman Jane Rich said the only economic growth she sees coming to Andover would be through recreation.

The board also signed a solid waste contract, effective July 1, and is looking into getting an off-site backup for the town computer system, “which would be nice,” Peterson said.

Selectmen will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at the Town Office to work on assessing issues.
