DIXFIELD — When classes resume in Regional School Unit 10 later this year, Dirigo High and Middle schools will have a new assistant principal and a new athletic director.
The RSU 10 board Monday appointed Jason Long, a longtime social studies teacher at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in Paris, as assistant principal at the Dixfield schools.
Jeff Turnbull, who previously taught in RSU 10, was appointed half-time athletic director for both schools.
Superintendent Craig King said the board continued negotiations with the bargaining units for nutrition workers, secretaries and bus drivers/custodians. The board’s negotiating team and the bargaining units are working toward new three-year contracts.
The board also approved a new policy that provides guidance for high school students who participate in the early college program. King said the policy was needed because so many high school students enroll in college courses. The new policy defines whether a course is free, paid by the school or paid by the student.
King also said public hearings on the proposed $36.7 million budget are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, at Dirigo Elementary School in Peru; and Thursday, May 21, at Buckfield Junior Senior High School.
The budget validation vote will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Mountain Valley High School.
A referendum vote on the figure approved at the budget validation vote will be held in district towns June 9.
