PORT ORANGE, Fla. — Joseph M. Palton, 92, of Port Orange, Fla., and Roxbury Pond, passed away on Monday, May 4, at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler in Port Orange, Fla.
Joe was born on Dec. 29, 1922, in Rumford, the son of Adam and Annie Siegle Paltanawick. He attended Rumford schools and joined the United States Army Air Force during World War II and was stationed in Italy. He worked at the Rumford paper mill until his retirement in 1984.
He was married on June 7, 1952, to Joyce Caron of Mexico, and she predeceased him on Feb. 12, 2006.
He is survived by his daughter, Joanne Riley and her husband, Tom, of Port Orange, Fla.; a grandson, Joel Riley and his wife, Kristen, of Albany, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Erin Riley of Wells; a great-granddaughter, Eden Riley of Albany, N.Y.; a sister, Margaret Viger of Rumford; and a brother, James Gelensky of Rumford.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents; stepfather, James Gelensky; brothers, Adam Palton and John Paltanawick; and sisters, Annie Paltanawick, Mary Goodwin and Eva Palmer.
