1953 – 2015

LEWISTON — Maureen Ann Marcotte, 61, of Lewiston, received a free one-way ticket to meet Jesus on Sunday, April 12.

She was born in Lewiston on Sept. 1, 1953, the daughter of William and Gertrude Matthews. Her family moved to Torrance, Calif., where she spent most of her childhood. During her teen years, she moved back to Maine and soon thereafter, she met and fell in love with Robert L. Marcotte, and they were married on April 29, 1972.

Maureen was blessed with two children, Robert Laurent and Kimberly Sunshine, and she could find no greater joy than to be a mom and raise her family. She worked for Sasseville Management for more than 30 years, as a manager at the Highlands and Kittyhawk apartments. She also did the bookkeeping for R.L.Marcotte Inc., her son’s business, for 15 years.

Maureen loved to meet new people and hear their story. Every person she met, she considered it a divine appointment and an opportunity to share God’s love with them.

Maureen loved the ocean and spent every June at Old Orchard Beach with her family. She also loved escaping long Maine winters to visit her sister, Gail, in Florida. She loved caramel corn, Coke, finding sand dollars, yard sales, scrapbooking, playing cards and games, spending time with her eight grandchildren (who called her “Goo”), but most of all, she loved God, with all of her heart, soul and mind.

Maureen is survived by her husband, Robert L.Marcotte; son, Robert L. Marcotte Jr. and wife, Jennifer; daughter, Kimberly Sholl; mother, Gertrude Matthews; father-in-law, Raymond Marcotte; sisters, Gail Sasseville and husband, Paul, and Pamela Gabri-Bellini and husband, Victor; brother, William W. Matthews III and wife, Veronica; and eight grandchildren, Abigail, Annabelle, Robert, Elizabeth, William, Naomi, Julia and Laura.

She was predeceased by her father, William W. Matthews; her brother-in-law, Steve Gabri; and her mother-in-law, Theresa Marcotte.

Maureen was a strong woman whose faith sustained her as she battled breast cancer during the last few years of her life. Her beautiful smile will be forever missed until the day we meet again in heaven for eternity.
