LIVERMORE FALLS — Three more does have been found fatally shot and left to waste in open fields in three towns, Game Warden Dave Chabot said Tuesday.
He and Warden Kris MacCabe need the public’s help to put a stop to this senseless killing and find the person or persons responsible for it, he said.
Operation Game Thief upped its reward Tuesday to $2,500 for information that leads to a conviction of those responsible for shooting the deer in Chesterville, Leeds, Livermore and Livermore Falls.
Chabot said a doe pregnant with twins was found shot dead April 22 in a field near the intersection of Bragdon Road/French Road and East Road in Chesterville. He found one doe each in fields April 22 on Route 106 in Leeds and River Road in Livermore. He found another doe April 24 in a field off Route 133 near Dodge Road in Livermore Falls in the East Livermore section, thanks to the public’s help, he said. The last three does could have been pregnant with at least one fawn each, he said.
“These deer are definitely all connected,” Chabot said. “The same people or persons are responsible.”
In his 19 years of being a warden, Chabot said, he has never seen such a vulgar display of waste.
“What are they trying to accomplish here?” he asked. “It is killing. They are stealing from everyone … from anyone shooting their first deer to people who just like to see them. There is no logical answer. Every one of us has a vested interest. I really need the public’s help. They need to help me protect their fish and wildlife.”
He added, “This is just an absolutely selfish, barbaric act,” Chabot said. “Why leave these animals to waste? These deer could have been utilized. These deer could have been producing offspring.”
Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the areas of Leeds, Livermore, Livermore Falls, East Livermore, Chesterville, Jay, or surrounding areas are strongly encouraged to anonymously call Operation Game Thief at 1-800-253-7887.
