1951 – 2015
LEWISTON — Betty Lavena Tyler, 64, of Auburn, died on April 18, 2015 in the arms of her family and her Jesus.
Betty was born the daughter of D.S. Weaver and G. Marie Kellar on Jan. 27, 1951, in Kokomo, Ind.
Betty thoroughly enjoyed her family and helping others. She loved the Lord above all others and shared her faith and blessed hope of salvation with everyone she met. In her spare time, Betty loved to read and spend time with her family.
In 1973, Betty married the love of her life, M. Alfred Tyler Jr. at the Kokomo Seventh-day Adventist Church. They celebrated their life together for 37 years until Al passed on Dec. 7, 2010. In addition to raising their four children, she also helped Al run their trucking company.
Betty was known to all as Mom or Nana. Everyone was like family. Betty greeted everyone with her signature big hug and a kiss, like you were one of her own children.
Betty learned she wanted to be a missionary at a young age, but due to starting a family with her husband, Al, she wasn’t able to pursue that dream until near the end of her life. She felt there was no better place to be a missionary than in her own community.
Betty was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist church in Auburn and an extremely active volunteer, including work at the food pantry and Sabbath School. She also volunteered regularly at the community center where she lived, particularly the Boys & Girls Club, who came each Wednesday afternoon.
Betty is survived by her sister, Mary Wyatt of Florida; her brother, John Weaver of Tennessee; children, Daniel Tyler and wife, Rina, of Alexandria, Va., Susan LeBlond and husband, Brian, of Lewiston, Lynnette Tyler of Oakland, and Amy Tyler of Auburn; grandchildren, Felicia, Zack, Becky, Kyle, Brei, Lily, David, Morgan and Adan; and great-grandchildren, Tory, Chloe and Elijah. She also had 13 nieces and six nephews, as well as other relatives and close friends.
