AUGUSTA — Republican Gov. Paul LePage will lead a trade mission to Japan and China this fall.
LePage will travel to Tokyo and Shanghai with a group of Maine businesses and educational institutions in October to attract investments to Maine and highlight the state’s exports.
LePage said in a statement that the group will educate Asian importers about the “superior quality of Maine lobsters” and many of the state’s manufactured products.
The mission is being organized by the Maine International Trade Center and the US Commercial Service. The trip will run from Oct. 24-31.
Janine Bissaillon-Cary, president of the group, said that Maine is seeing a growth in exports to Japan in industries such as medical products. She said that Maine wood and lobster exports to China also have increased.
