MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Academy Decathlon Team received State of Maine Runner-up School and State of Maine Small School Champion awards during competition Feb. 28 at Scarborough High School.

Ten schools and 120 students participated. Scarborough High won the championship and Oak Hill High placed fifth.

Academic Decathlon is comprised of A, B and C students who study together as a team for a year and then compete in ten (decathlon) different subject areas. This year’s theme was New Alternatives in Energy: Ingenuity and Innovation and the team was coached by Cathy Foyt and Scott Foyt.

The following students participated for Monmouth and won medals:

* Alternate Team Member: Shannon Buzzell (bronze medal-math)

* Competition Team Members: Madison Bumann, Madison Neal, Dylan Goff (bronze medal-math); Liliana Stewart (bronze medal-art); Kimberlee Lewis (bronze medal-interview); Christopher Dumont (bronze medal-economics, bronze medal-music, gold medal-social science); Corey Tatarka (bronze medal-essay, silver medal-language/literature, silver medaleconomics, gold medal-music); Jordyn Mann (bronze medal-science, bronze medal-economics, silver medal-speech, gold medal-highest team scorer); Angus Koller (bronze medal-music, bronze medal-art, silver medal-science, silver medal-interview, gold medal-speech and 3rd highest scorer in the State of Maine Scholastic Division.)
