PORTLAND — The Portland Sea Dogs are getting shut out by Mother Nature after all.
Officials with the minor league team say conditions at Hadlock Field are “unplayable” and they will postpone the first game of the season. A spokesman for the team said earlier Thursday that the club still planned to get its game in against the Reading Fightin Phils at 6 p.m.
The teams will make up the game as a doubleheader on May 23.
The National Weather Service says Portland International Jetport got 2.8 inches of snow, which was still falling lightly at midmorning. Parts of the city got closer to four inches in localized areas.
The Sea Dogs are a minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The club won the Eastern League’s Eastern Division last year.
