What we’re all about
In the beginning
Todd Wardwell, owner of Todd’s Discount, spent much of his spare time in high school in the early 1980s working with his father, Clyde Wardwell, in the family’s antiques and used-furniture business.
During this time Todd attended hundreds of estate and commercial auctions with his dad. Todd found that many of the auctions also offered job lots of brand new, quality items from bankruptcies, factory overstocks, and discontinued products.
Once Todd was out of high school he continued attending auctions, only now he was making purchases on his own and selling the products on the wholesale market.
Retail outlet opens
By the mid 1990s, Todd realized the time was right to open a retail outlet for his auction purchases. So in 1994 he purchased the property at 9 Roxbury Road, near the intersection of U.S. Route 2 and Roxbury Road (Route 17) in Mexico, Maine. Local residents will remember this was the location of Dawson’s Sporting Goods up until the 1960s.
Over the next year he renovated and more than doubled the size of the existing building and opened “Todd’s Discount and Gift Shop.”
Business keeps growing
Today, Todd continues attending commercial auctions, seeking out great buys on quality merchandise ranging from unique gifts and collectibles to hardware and hand and power tools and more.
As Todd has grown his business, both at the retail and wholesale levels, he has acquired several off-site locations to warehouse his ever-expanding inventory of exceptional merchandise, all priced at discount prices.
