RUMFORD — Andy St. Pierre of Peru has organized another concert to raise money for two families to attend Camp Sunshine in Casco this summer.

“The concert last year was very successful,” St. Pierre said. “We were $2 shy of raising $3,000. We made enough to send a family to Camp Sunshine. I’m hoping that this year, we can raise a little bit more so we can send two families to the camp”

The second annual Concert to Benefit Camp Sunshine is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at Rumford Falls Auditorium on Congress Street. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and people can enter through the police station at the back of the building.

The camp on Sebago Lake “provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families through various stages of a child’s illness,” according to its website

St. Pierre said it costs about $2,000 to send one family.

He came up with the idea after participating in events with NAPA Auto Parts to raise money for the camp, including one in Greenville that brought in more than $36,000.

For the Rumford event, St. Pierre will perform folk and country music from the 1970s and ’80s, with a few musicians providing help on some songs.

“There will be a little John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, Charley Pride, some Merle Haggard and some James Taylor,” he said.

St. Pierre said he’s “hoping people who went last time are motivated to come again and spread the word to people who didn’t come last time. The money goes to a great cause.”

The Rumford Performing Arts Committee has helped organize the concert and will sell tickets at the door. Tickets may be purchased at Kreckel Law Offices on Congress Street in Rumford for $8 each, $10 at the door. Children’s tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door.

There will also be a raffle for a handmade quilt and a baked goods sale, with proceeds from the latter going to Camp Sunshine.
