1945 – 2015

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Brenda Ellen Cook, 69, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Livermore Falls, died Friday, March 27, at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, Fla., following lingering health issues.

She was born Sept. 4, 1945, in Bath, the daughter of Lenard Winston Kinney and Elinor (Parker) Kinney. Brenda “Squeak” was a 1963 graduate of Jay High School, where she actively participated in basketball, softball, cheerleading and band. She continued her education and became a registered nurse.

Brenda married Gary Cook Sr. and had three children, Melanie, Jeff and Gary Cook Jr.

She worked in nursing at Franklin Memorial Hospital and Central Maine Medical Center until her retirement. Upon her retirement, she relocated to Fort Myers. Brenda was a loving woman whose penchant for diamonds reflected her sparkling personality. She was just as at ease watching baseball with her family as she was chatting up a sales rep at a Lamborghini dealership. Though she enjoyed the finer things in life, her sense of humor and charm made her a good friend to all kinds. Her hobbies included refinishing furniture with her significant other, Treby, collecting antiques, caring for her cats and spending time with family and friends. She was a dependable source of love and support, as well as the life of many parties.

She is survived by her significant other, William “Treby” Jones of Fort Myers, Fla.; her children, Melanie Barker and her husband, Douglas, of Leeds; Jeffrey Cook and his wife, Paula, of Waterboro; and Gary Cook Jr. of Auburn; grandchildren, Paige and Aaron Barker, Dakota and Savannah Paul and Brak Cox; her brother, Neil Kinney and his wife, Pat, of Jay.

She was predeceased by her brother, Parker Kinney; and sister, Donna Jerry. Messages of condolence may be sent to www.finleyfuneralhome.com.
