WISCASSET — A 14-year-old Wiscasset High School student was charged Friday with aggravated drug trafficking, a Class B felony that was elevated because the alleged drug sales took place at school.
A search of the student’s backpack by Wiscasset High School Principal Cheri Towle on Friday revealed nine Ziploc baggies containing 163 prescription pills, all hidden in a Pringles can, according to a release from Wiscasset Police Chief Troy Cline.
The pills, which were allegedly labeled with prices, included Vicodin; Tylenol 3; Endocet (oxycodone and acetaminophen); tramadol, a narcotic-like pain reliever; Oxycontin; lorazepam (Ativan) and diazepam (Valium) both benzodiazepines; cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril, a muscle relaxant) and amitriptyline (Elavil, an antidepressant).
School staff was alerted by the boy’s father that his son may have stolen pills from a family member that the boy had stayed with and may have those pills with him.
Police suspect the student planned to sell the drugs at a dance scheduled to be held at the school that night to which five area high schools were invited, according to the release.
The student was released to his father. He is scheduled to be arraigned April 28 in Wiscasset Superior Court.
