PERU — An Emmy Award-winning nutrition media company will bring its theater troupe to Dirigo Elementary School at 1 p.m. Monday, March 30, to teach children about healthy eating and childhood obesity.
School nurse Erin Wainwright said FoodPlay Productions reached out to the school about performing.
“A troupe of actors come in and put on a 45-minute play that talks about making good choices when it comes to eating,” Wainwright said. “Usually, a performance by this group would cost a couple thousand dollars, but they told us that Hannaford was sponsoring their group, so it would be free for them to visit.”
The play will feature activities, including juggling, music, dance, magic and audience participation.
“They’ll be performing for the K-5 age group,” Wainwright said. “It’s a pretty exciting thing.”
FoodPlay Productions was founded in 1982 by Barbara Storper. It has won several awards, including a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Children and Youth Special, and the Outstanding Nutrition Entrepreneur Award by the American Dietetic Association.
