BRUNSWICK — Police on Wednesday were searching for a man who they say may have attempted to lure an 11-year-old girl into his car.

It happened at about 1:30 p.m., police said, in the Spring Street area near Harriet Beecher Stowe School.

As the 11-year-old was walking, police said, the suspect drove slowly behind her and attempted to strike up a conversation, encouraging the girl to come closer to his car.

The child declined to go near the car, police said, and returned home. On Wednesday, police said there were no pending criminal charges but that they would like to speak with anyone who might have witnessed the interaction.

The man was driving a white car, police said. He was described as in his 20s or 30s with curly blond hair and a beard.

Anyone with information is asked to call Brunswick Police at 725-5521.
