LISBON — Crews battled a large structure fire in a two-story home Sunday evening. The long driveway and distance from the road and a hydrant meant tankers had to bring in water and run hoses from the roadway.

Crews from Lisbon, Topsham and Sabattus were called to 130 Moody Road for a report of a structure fire. Lewiston Fire Department was called on to cover Lisbon while they fought the fire.

A tower from Lisbon drove down the driveway as firefighters attacked from the ground. Within 30 minutes, much of the roof had collapsed and heavy flames were showing on the first floor.

Neighbor Jay Stone was home when the fire broke out, “We just started seeing the fire trucks around 5:30,” Stone said.

“One came in and then we started seeing the smoke going pretty quickly after the fire trucks arrived,” Stone said. “And then, maybe 20-30 minutes later, you could see flames going about 50 feet high off the top of the building.

“At that point, we knew it was pretty serious,” Stone said.

“I got a feeling the wind had a big part of that — obviously the wind out there is going to make it hard to fight that fire,” Stone said as fire crews fought not only the flames but a wind advisory and temperatures in the low teens in an open space.
