1933 – 2015

PORTLAND — Ella J. Witherell, 82, a resident of Acton, passed away Thursday, March 19, at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born March 4, 1933, in Wayne, the daughter of Adelbert and Hazel (Penniman) Maxim. Ella was a graduate of Winthrop High School.

On June 26, 1954, in Winthrop, she married Earle Witherell. Ella was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and devoted her time caring for her family.

Ella served on the board of directors for the Oldtimer’s Shop in Sanford and also volunteered there once a week.

She enjoyed bingo, crocheting, knitting, making jam, shopping and baking, especially whoopie pies.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Earle Witherell, of Acton; her daughter, Jill Farris and her husband, William, of Melrose, Mass.; her son, Jeffrey Witherell and his wife, Kathy, of Marblehead, Mass.; eight grandchildren, Joshua and Nicholas Farris, Katie Mamos and her husband, Peter, Ethan and Kyle Farris, Nathaniel, Victoria and Jonathan Witherell; one great-granddaughter, Oliva Ella; brothers and sisters, Lila Sciuk, Teresa Breton, Sonny Maxim and Emily Goodie; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by siblings, Adelbert Maxim Jr., Chloe and Francis Maxim and Madolyn Riggs.
