1946 – 2015
AUBURN — James E. Verrill, 68, a resident of Sabattus Street in Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, at the Androscoggin Hospice House with his loving family by his side, after a long illness.
He was born in Lewiston on Dec. 8, 1946, the son of Charles and Magdalyn (Orlandini) Verrill. Jim was a 20-year veteran with the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. He was a skilled Air Force instructor in aerial attack, as well as serving as the highest non-enlisted rank responsible for Air Force base supplies and the replenishment of weapons at the following Air Force bases: Loring Air Force Base, Maine; Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas; as well as bases in South Carolina, Idaho, Alaska, Germany and Turkey.
He was an avid sportsman throughout his life, who was an active baseball player on various leagues, and he especially loved the Boston Red Sox.
Following retirement, he became an artist and a poet.
Survivors include four daughters, Tonya Kara and Janet, both of Lewiston, Anna Rose of Charleston, S.C., and Hillary of Lewiston; one sister, Mary Ann Lowell of Kings Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren, Brennden, Bre’Anna, Jenna, Ryan and Jamie; and three great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Eileen Marquis.
