1923 – 2015
FRYEBURG — Edwin Farrington Sargent, 91, of Fryeburg, died Friday, March 13, at the Fryeburg Health Care Center.
He was born in North Conway the son of John E. and Theona Farrington, and attended Fryeburg schools, graduating from Fryeburg Academy in 1941. He also spent one year as a post graduate at Tilton Academy.
Ed enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Joanne Richardson in 1947 and together they owned and operated Farrington Camps in Lovell until 1975. He then became manager for Green Granite Hotel for many years. In addition he worked for Wood Funeral Home and with Bill Hammond surveying. He was a registered Maine Guide for 50 years and truly loved times spent in the woods and on the water.
He was a well-loved son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Ed was also a well-respected man in our community. Ed was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Fryeburg and and early manager of the Dairy Bar for the church at the Fryeburg Fair. For many years, he also worked at the Beano Tent at the fair. He was a member of Pythagorean Lodge and served in many roles in the lodge.
He suffered from dementia and was a resident of Fryeburg Health Care Center for five years.
He was predeceased by his parents and his son, Mark.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne of 67 years; his sons, John Sargent and his wife, Carol, Peter and his daughter, Suzanne; and his daughter-in-law Barbara Sargent of Candia, N.H.; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
