Not to worry. The storm expected to slip into Maine on Saturday night isn’t forecast to be a killer. What it will be is wet, with snow changing to rain, which will change to sleet and then back to snow again, and so on into a sloppy Sunday.

After a few days of springlike weather, forecasters are predicting a little bit of everything as March nears its midway point.

“It will start as as wintry mix in the southern half of New Hampshire and along the Maine coast Saturday morning,” according to the National Weather Service in Gray, “and will change to rain in these areas Saturday afternoon, before changing back to snow Saturday evening.”

Although northern areas were looking at the possibility of 8 inches or more, snow accumulations in the Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford county areas were expected to reach 5 inches or less.

Still, with a mixed bag of precipitation, the weather service was advising that roads could be slick and driving perilous. Mostly, they spent the week cautioning winter-weary Mainers that spring isn’t here just yet.

“I hope everyone didn’t get used to the mild weather yesterday,” the service posted on Thursday, a day after temperatures reached into the 50s in most areas.

“Unsettled weather headed our way,” the service posted later in the day, and: “back to reality.”

After the weekend, weather forecasters say, it will be mostly sunny, although temperatures are not expected to rise much above 40. In one week, it will be officially spring on the calendar, which means you should probably go ahead and pull your lawn mower out of the garage.
