SOUTH PORTLAND (AP) — South Portland police are investigating after a man who had been shot and a man who had been stabbed showed up at the hospital.
Police say the friends showed up at Mercy Hospital in Portland just before 11 p.m. Wednesday, one with a gunshot wound and one with a stab wound.
The stabbing victim, with the more serious injury, was transferred to Maine Medical Center. They are both expected to survive.
Police say the men were injured in the parking lot of the Wainwright Sports Complex.
No names were released and there was no immediate word on arrests, but police say it was not a random act of violence and there is no public safety threat.
