ANSWER: There is an organization called Local Harvest that keeps a list of this type of farm program — community supported agriculture. You didn’t list your town, so here are a few of the farms listed by Local Harvest: Little Ridge Farm, 101 Gould Rd., Lisbon Falls, ME 04252;  River Rise Farm in Auburn, call 207-713-3993; Willow Pond Farm in Sabattus, call 207-375-6662; and Valley View Farm in Auburn, call 207-320-1969.

These co-ops sell varying numbers of shares, some sell 10 shares, others sell much more. In addition to vegetables and fruits, some farms sell meat shares or have extras like eggs, herbs and baked goods. Whispering Winds Farm in Mechanic Falls has sold out all available shares for this upcoming season and told Sun Spots that most farmers sell out their shares by January/February and so consumers should look to buy shares in November/ December. Sun Spots would like to hear from readers about other farm co-ops.

ANSWER: This is a complex question and one answer does not fit every situation. You need to discuss your particular situation with an attorney. In general, people put a home in a living trust to avoid having it go through probate court, to save on estate taxes and possibly to shield the home from creditors. You can contact the State of Maine Aging & Disability Services at 207-287-9200 or 1-800-262-2232 as they have information available on this subject.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m wondering if there are any beauticians in the Lewiston-Auburn area who cut women’s hair with a razor instead of scissors? Thanks. — No Name, No Town.

ANSWER: Sun Spots spoke with her hairdresser who noted that all you have to do is ask! Some beauticians prefer to use scissors depending on the type of hair you have, and she said generally women with shorter hair will have their hair cut with a razor. But if you ask, your beautician should be able to accommodate you or tell you why they prefer to use a razor on your hair.
