BUCKSPORT — Maine’s Bureau of Labor Standards is looking into whether a shuttered paper mill has paid all of the severance owed to machinists who worked at the facility.
A spokeswoman for the bureau says Monday the review of Verso Paper Corp. is ongoing. The International Association of Aerospace Workers and Machinists says Verso erred when it calculated the amount of severance owed to workers at the Bucksport mill.
Machinist union vice president Brian Simpson tells Maine Public Broadcasting Network the union believes Verso owes $350,000 to union members. Verso says it has correctly followed the law.
The mill’s December closure put more than 500 workers out of a job.
