WOODSTOCK — The Board of Selectmen voted Tuesday not to purchase the old state highway garage on Route 232.
Town Manager Vern Maxfield said Lorrinda Connelly and Norm Haggan with the Maine Department of Transportation offered the 40- by 80-foot building to the town for $125,000, with several payment options to choose from.
The building hasn’t been used since the state built a building in Dixfield 10 years ago.
“The selectmen talked about it on Tuesday, and decided that they didn’t want to pursue the building,” Maxfield said. “If they had pursued the building, we were looking at putting the Highway Department in it. Instead, the selectmen were talking about possibly spending some money to fix up the town garage that we already have.”
Maxfield said he received estimates for reusing the town garage’s overhead doors, and for installing a concrete pad and overhead doors for the town pole shed.
“Our pole shed has never been enclosed, and we’ve had at least one robbery recently where parts were stolen,” Maxfield said. “When the board decided not to go with the MDOT building, they decided to tackle these issues instead.”
Maxfield estimated it would cost around $17,500 to complete all three projects.
“We’re going to put it on the town meeting warrant and see what people think,” Maxfield said.
