WESTBROOK (AP) — An employee of a Westbrook pharmacy has been taken to the hospital with critical injuries after a car plowed through the glass front of the store.

Authorities say an 84-year-old man trying to pull into a parking spot apparently hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes and went crashing through the glass front of the Rite Aid store at about noon Sunday, coming to rest against the checkout counter.

A worker, identified by police as 66-year-old Sharla Cummings, was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The driver and his wife, both of Gorham, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.

Meanwhile, the store sustained no structural damage and is expected to reopen Monday.
