FARMINGTON — A Jay man was accused of sexually assaulting a female in March 2014 in New Sharon, Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said Monday in a release.
One of the attacks required medical treatment, he said.
Sheriff’s Lt. David St. Laurent and Maine State Police Detective Randall Keaten conducted a joint investigation.
They arrested Joseph L. Begin, 37, on Monday on three counts of gross sexual assault, Nichols said.
He is being held on $25,000 cash bail at the Franklin County jail in Farmington.
“The attacks occurred in New Sharon; the victim did not report the incidents for fear of her life until recently, when she came forward and disclosed to Lt. St. Laurent and detective Keaten,” Nichols said in the release.
The detectives arrested Begin at his Jay home without incident.
The investigation continues with the possibility that there are other victims in the Kennebec County area, Nichols said.
Staff from Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Services are providing services to the victim.
