FARMINGTON — An eighth-grade parent night for Mt. Blue Middle School parents to discuss high school scheduling will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at the Mt. Blue Campus Forum, Mt. Blue High School.
Spurrs Corner food pantry hours
OTISFIELD — The food pantry at Spurrs Corner Church, Route 121, will be open Tuesdays, March 3 and 17, from 10 a.m. to noon.

West Paris food pantry open on Feb. 17
WEST PARIS — The Neighborhood Niche Food Pantry will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, March 3 and 17, at West Paris Baptist Church, 15 Church St. The pantry is open the first and third Tuesdays of each month and West Paris residents are invited to come once a month.

Star Party at Paris Library on March 6
PARIS — A Star Party will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 6, at
Paris Public Library. Amateur astronomers will give a short presentation discussing basic astronomy and telescope use.
Then participants will head outside for astronomical observation. The astronomers will help attendees locate interesting phenomena to view through the telescopes.

AARP chapter to meet March 9
PARIS — The Oxford Hills chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, March 9, at the First Congregational Church on East Main Street.
Lunch will be served at noon with stuffed pork chops and all the fixings on the menu. The cost is $7 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by Friday, March 6.
The business meeting will begin at 12:45 p.m. A “no bake” sale will be held to raise money for future programs. Members are reminded that the book/puzzle swap will continue as well as support for the local food pantry.
The program will be presented by Peter Morelli of AARP Maine, who will describe the Network of Age Friendly Communities and how Maine communities might “plan and adapt.”
New England boiled dinner March 7
FARMINGTON — A New England boiled dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Henderson Memorial Baptist Church, 110 Academy St.
The meal includes beef, vegetables, homemade bread, pies and beverage.
Cost is $8.

Lions Club plan Texas Hold’em
HARRISON — The Harrison Lions Club will hold their Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, March 7, at the VFW Hall on Waterford Road.
There will be a $55 entry fee. Doors open at noon with starting time at 1 p.m. This is a BYOB event with food and refreshments available.
The proceeds will be used to provide services that the Lions Club renders to the community such as school scholarships, Christmas for Kids and eye screening for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes.
Father/Daughter Dances in two towns
JAY/PHILLIPS — The Franklin County Children’s Task Force will hold two simultaneous Father Daughter Dances again this year on Saturday, March 7, from 6 to 9 p.m. One dance will take place at the Jay Middle School gym, and the other will take place at the Phillips Elementary School.
Advance tickets may be purchased at Calico Patch in Farmington, The Flower Barn in Jay, Edmunds in Phillips or The White Elephant in Strong. One ticket covers the father and his daughter(s). Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
Music will be by DJs Chelsea Hutchinson and Chris Keith.

The Veggies to play March 7 at Legion
MECHANIC FALLS — One of Maine’s best classic rock bands will rock the night away on Saturday, March 7, to support the Mechanic Falls Recreation Department.
The Veggies will play at the American Legion Hall, 41 Elm St. Doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are $15 per person. All proceeds will support the Mechanic Falls Recreation programs, activities and events. Throughout the night there will be a cash bar and a chance to win some raffle prizes provided by area businesses.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at Bryant Energy in Mechanic Falls or email mechanicfallsrec@yahoo.com to reserve tickets. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
Oxford Recreation pizza challenge
OXFORD — The Oxford Recreation Department will hold its eighth annual Pizza Challenge from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Oxford Community Center.
The public will have a chance to vote on the best cheese pizza, best pepperoni pizza, best specialty pizza and best overall pizza in the area.
Voting stops at 2 p.m.
Minimum donation is $3 for adults and $1.50 for children under 12.
Soda and water will be available for purchase.
All proceeds will benefit Oxford Recreation Department activities.
Paris Fire Department public supper
PARIS — The Paris Fire Department Auxiliary will hold a public supper at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Paris Fire Station, Western Avenue.
Menu will include corned beef and cabbage, ham, potatoes, rolls, veggies, mac and cheese, salads and assorted homemade pies with ice cream.
Adults, $8; ages 4 to 12, $4; ages 3 and under, free.
There will be a 50/50 raffle.
Deering Memorial plans turkey dinner
PARIS — A roast turkey dinner will all the fixings and apple crisp with ice cream will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Deering Memorial Methodist Church, 39 Main St.
Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12.
Proceeds from the supper will be given to Ron and Maury Blake toward their medical expenses.
Parking is available behind the library and town office.
American Legion indoor yard sale
PARIS — An indoor yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at American Legion Post 72, 12 Church St.
The lunch counter will be open. There will be a 50/50 raffle and raffle baskets.
Proceeds will help the Auxiliary send three young ladies to Girls State.

WEST PARIS — SeniorsPlus, the aging and disability resource center, facilitates a monthly caregiver support group on the second Tuesday of the month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the West Paris Town Office, 26 Kingsbury St. This group is for anyone caring for a family member or friend with memory loss. New members may join at any time.
This support group is free and open to the public.

Deering Memorial free breakfasts
PARIS — Deering Memorial United Methodist Church will host free community breakfasts from 8 to 9 a.m. each Sunday.
The menu changes weekly with some of the most popular items being baked stuffed French toast, homemade cinnamon rolls, egg casseroles, home fries and pancakes. There is always cereal, toast, coffee, juice and fruit.
Organizers welcome help or donations of breakfast supplies. A free-will offering is available for anyone wishing to donate toward the cost of the breakfast.

RUMFORD — St. Timothy Circle No. 504, Daughters of Isabella, will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at the Holy Savior Church Hall.

Career scholarships available
FARMINGTON — The Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is once again offering health career scholarships. Scholarships will be presented to students in need of financial assistance who reside in Greater Franklin County, including Livermore Falls and Livermore, and are pursuing careers in the health care field.
To be eligible, applications must be completed and returned by April 15. Applicants must also have been accepted to a school of their choice by that date.
In May, the Auxiliary will select six recipients for the $600 scholarships. The funds will be awarded following the successful completion of the first semester of post-secondary school.
