Danville Grange to meet Feb. 26

AUBURN — Danville Junction Grange will hold their previously scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26.

The program will be presented by Past Master William Hatch, chairman of the Agriculture Committee.

Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting.

Members are reminded to bring coupons for troops.

Post 153 invites vets to be counted

AUBURN — Post 153 Commander Daniel St. Pierre announces that Gov. Paul Lepage has declared Feb. 28 Stand Up and Be Counted Day for Maine veterans.

All veterans can go to or contact their nearest Veterans Service Organization to sign up for their benefits or go online to www.va.gov.

William J. Rogers American Legion Post 153 will host this event on Feb. 28 at 71 South Main St.

World’s Greatest Sleigh Ride is March 1

LISBON FALLS — World’s Greatest Sleigh Rides will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at 407 Main St.

Many teams of draft horses, mules, ponies and minis with sleighs of all sorts will be giving sleigh rides through fields and woods for the public.

Donation amounts are $4 and $3. Hot doughnuts, coffee, cocoa, dogs and stews will be available at the snack shack.

All proceeds go to Pine Tree Society for Handicapped Children. Bring your family, friends and camera.

Program for 4-year-olds at Cottrell

MONMOUTH — The Cottrell School in collaboration with Southern Kennebec Child Development Corp. Headstart will provide a program for 4-year-olds during the morning in the fall for children who meet established criteria and a preschool program in the afternoon. Both programs will be located at the Henry L. Cottrell School.

Registration will take place from 8 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, and Thursday, April 2.

Children must be 4 years of age on or before Oct. 15. A copy of the child’s original birth certificate, Social Security card and health record including immunization dates will be needed. The child will be checked for height, weight, vision and hearing as well as a brief screening with a Cottrell staff member.

Pinochle, pitch players welcome

LEWISTON — Pinochle and pitch card games for seniors are played weekly at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave.

New players are always welcome. Pitch is played at 1 p.m. on Tuesdays. Pinochle is at 1 p.m. on Thursdays. Refresher courses are available in both categories.

League play started the first week in September.

The armory is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. You must become a member to play.

APL to host Young Engineers Club

AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library Children’ s room will host a Young Engineers Club for children ages 8 through 12 from 4-5:30 p.m. beginning Friday, March 6, and running for six weeks until Friday, April 10, at the library.

Jeanne Lothridge from the University of Maine Cooperative Extension service will run the club. Plan to attend all six sessions if possible.

Jeannie will help children explore the principles of engineering, such as friction and lift with fun, hands-on activities.

AUBURN — The Androscoggin County Republican Committee’s Annual Lincoln Day Dinner and Fundraiser will take place Friday, March 6, at Hilton Garden Inn, 14 Great Falls Plaza.

Social hour with cash bar and silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. At 6:30 there will be a dinner, bidding auction and 50/50 raffle.

Guest speaker will be Congressman Bruce Poliquin.
