DIXFIELD — The owner of a 1,329-foot summit said Monday evening that he was not in favor of a resident’s proposal to name a hill on it after a former town official.
At the Feb. 9 selectmen meeting, resident Steve Swan said he submitted a proposal to the U.S. Board on Geographic Names to name the hill after his father, Stanley Stuart “Sonny” Swan Jr., who served as a town official in the 1960s.
After the land’s owner, Grayson Child, said he was not aware of Swan’s proposal, Selectman Hart Daley suggested that Swan and Child discuss the issue later.
At Monday’s meeting, Child told selectmen he and Swan had spoken.
“I asked him to withdraw his proposal, and he told me that he would,” Child said.
“The last I knew, I pay taxes on it, so I still own it,” Child added.
In other business, interim police Chief Jeff Howe said quite a few cases are going to the DA’s office for review and some felony cases are going to the grand jury for indictment.
Town Manager Carlo Puiia told selectmen that the police chief search committee has selected applicants for interviews.
“They have some interviews scheduled for next week, so I’ll report back to you at the next meeting,” Puiia said.
