Bill Webster wrote in his letter (Feb. 18) that “lack of school readiness” is one of “three major reasons for the lack of student success.”
Does his hypocrisy know no bounds?
He and Sue Martin refused to apply for a waiver to avoid implementing a proficiency based learning program that was not and is not ready. They threatened and ignored teachers who tried to speak out on behalf of the class of 2018.
In August 2014, the freshman class walked through the doors of a school that lacked readiness, with teachers who lacked readiness, but Webster has steadily tried to sell the parents of that class and the School Committee that the lack of readiness would not affect their success, even though that lack of readiness continues to this day.
None of the 10th-, 11th-, or 12th-grade teachers are ready, either, so the kids will walk through the doors of Lewiston High School every year while there to a lack of readiness.
Webster continues to use our children as guinea pigs to “perfect” this poorly planned and poorly implemented system, and is happy to play with their futures to save face.
His words and actions disgust me. He is not worthy of his position and the fact that he could write the letter that he did while knowing full well what he is doing to hundreds of high school students as he wrote it is further proof that he does not deserve the confidence of the parents in this city.
