NORWAY — The Josh Wardwell Scholarship Fishing Derby will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Lake Pennesseewassee.
An avid outdoorsman, Wardwell of Oxford died in December 2012 after falling through the ice on Chapman Pond in Hebron while checking his beaver traps. A student at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, he was 17 years old.
Proceeds from the derby will go toward a scholarship established in Wardwell’s name by fellow students Ryan Boucher and Randi-Lyn Conley. The derby is Boucher and Conley’s senior project.
Admission for Saturday’s event is $10; $5 for children under 10.
First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded for the heaviest trout. The top prize is a $100 Cabela’s gift card.
There will be refreshments and food, including hamburgers and hot dogs, for sale at the event.
Derby-goers should check in at the gray tent at Norway Lake to register.
