LEWISTON — Police on Wednesday arrested a transient and recovered narcotics stolen during an early-morning robbery at the Rite Aid pharmacy on Sabattus Street.

Lt. Mark Cornelio said the first report of a holdup came in at 8:38 a.m. about a man dressed in blue and wearing a mask.

“A lone male went in, demanded narcotics from the pharmacy,” Cornelio said. “He said he had a weapon but never displayed it. He was given what he asked for.”

Within a half-hour police had tracked down Wil Chabot, 39, eventually charging him with robbery.

“We recovered the narcotics along with other items that linked him to the crime,” Cornelio said. “At that time, he was just a person of interest; he was claiming it was somebody else. We held onto him until we could go out and follow up. One thing led to another and led back to him.”

Chabot was being held Wednesday afternoon at Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn on $10,000 bail.
