FARMINGTON — Regional School Unit 9 directors voted Tuesday to approve a school calendar for 2015-16 that contains 32 late-arrival Wednesdays.

The days allow educators to continue professional development, Superintendent Tom Ward said Wednesday. It also decreases the number of early-release days, he said.

On each late-arrival day, school begins one hour later than normal. The district makes accommodations for students who need to attend at the regular time.

There were 34 late-arrival days scheduled this school year.

School administrators spoke highly of the professional development accomplished during late-arrival days when they addressed the board this school year.

A list of topics to be discussed during late-arrival days this year are posted on the district’s website, www.mtbluersd.org, under the tab for news.

The 2015-16 school year also contains one districtwide early-release day on Sept. 16 during Farmington Fair week. Two additional early-release days pertaining to students in prekindergarten through fifth grade are scheduled for Jan. 15 and March 4, 2016.

School will start Aug. 27 and 28 for teachers. Students in grades kindergarten through nine will begin classes Aug. 31. Sophomores, juniors and seniors will start the following day.

High school graduation is scheduled for June 12, 2016.

The end of the school year is tentatively set for June 9, 2016, but could change if school is canceled for snow days. Those days are added to the end of the year, Ward said.
