WELD — Selectmen approved a shortened process for filing nomination papers Monday for a one-year term on the Board of Selectmen.
Selectman Michael Pratt resigned, effective immediately, because of health problems. He has one year remaining on his three-year term, Town Clerk Carol Cochran said.
It is normally an 85-day process leading up to the election, but selectmen authorized her to shorten the nomination process to 10 days, she said.
Nomination papers will be available Tuesday, Feb. 10, and are due back to the Town Office by Thursday, Feb. 19. Papers may be picked up during normal business hours.
The election is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 6. The town meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Town Hall.
It may be a little confusing for voters on Election Day because there will be two ballots for town officials instead of one, Cochran said.
One ballot will include the elections for a three-year selectman term, an assessor and overseer of the poor, a three-year term for road commissioner and a five-year term on the Planning Board.
Those papers were available in December 2014 with a Jan. 23 deadline.
The election of the one-year selectman term will be placed on the second ballot.
