I applaud the Lewiston School Committee for voting to build a new elementary school for Lewiston students. A new school would resolve the problem of overcrowding and create an opportunity to ultimately have one of the best schools in the state of Maine.
This ideal opportunity gives residents the best balance between fiscal responsibility to Lewiston taxpayers and addressing the needs of education for Lewiston children. If designed well, it can still have the feel and advantages of a smaller neighborhood school.
Families look for good schools for their children and the plan is one way to keep them from moving away.
I hope the Lewiston community will approve this amazing project when it comes up for a vote.
