NEWRY — A young man was seriously injured in a skiing collision on Saturday morning at Sunday River Ski Resort.
Spokeswoman Sarah Devlin said Saturday afternoon that the incident happened at about 9 a.m. near the bottom of 3D Trail on North Peak. It is an intermediate-skill trail with a terrain park.
According to ski patrol, the man is 18 to 20 years old and suffered a head injury despite wearing a helmet, Devlin said. The ski resort does not identify its guests who are injured in accidents.
“This was a skier collision,” Devlin said. “I have no details on the other party, however.”
Ski patrol was alerted to the accident by phone and got to the scene within minutes, Devlin said. Patrol took him to an area where he was picked up by LifeFlight medical helicopter and taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
The other person involved in the collision apparently wasn’t injured as the young man was the only one taken to a hospital, Devlin said. The resort is still investigating the incident.
