TURNER — SAD 52 Adult and Community Education’s Winter/Spring 2015 schedule of classes gets underway the week of Feb. 8. The lineup of classes beginning that week include:
Introduction to Bookbinding: Learn how to make your own books. A variety of introductory bookbinding techniques will be covered. They are all fun, creative and useful. Students will leave each class with a book they made.
Pilates & Yoga Fusion: Sign up for this fun and gentle, yet challenging class that utilizes foundational movements and breathing practices from Pilates and yoga. It’s designed for beginner to intermediate students looking to tone, improve full body strength and flexibility, balance and posture. Students should bring a yoga or Pilates mat.
Winter Warrior Basics: Late winter/early spring is a great time to get out and enjoy cross country skiing, snowshoeing or winter hiking. Learn about clothing, weather, essential equipment, common winter hazards and more. If you have winter gear, bring it to class to discuss.
Cable Knitting: If you have the basics of knitting down, and are ready for more, register for this. Learn several of the cable stitches and patterns in this four-week class. Bring a pair of knitting needles in size 7, 8 or 9.
Tumbling: There is a class for all tumblers. Tiny Tot introduces basic mat skills in a structured and fun environment emphasizing stretching, flexibility, strength, control and fun. Beginner to Advanced classes are for cheerleaders, acrobats, gymnasts and others ages 6 to 18 wishing to enhance, improve and refine their tumbling skills.
It’s Sew Simple: Learn basic sewing skills, how to use/thread a machine and stitch various types of seams. And if you’re feeling brave, students may also tackle zippers. Make your choice of tote bag or iPad cover. Students bring fabric and thread for final project, but scrap for samples will be provided. Also bring your own sewing machine if you have one.
Zumba Step: Tone and strengthen your legs and glutes with a gravity-defying blend of Zumba routines and step aerobics. Lower body workouts and calorie burning will be taken to new heights. Steps will be provided (if you have your own, please bring it.) Bring water and wear sneakers.
Yoga for Mind and Body Relaxation: Relax and restore the mind and body through gentle yoga poses and breath. Each class will end with a restoring guided meditation infused with essential oil. Suitable for all. Please bring a yoga mat.
Pottery Fun: Here’s your chance to learn to use a pottery wheel. Create your own unique pieces while exploring wheel, hand-building and glazing techniques.
Basic Masonry: Learn a new skill in this basic masonry class using brick, block and stone. Understand plumb level and range. Find out about different bonds, mortar mixes, how to use tools and how to estimate and set up a job.
iPhone, iPad & iTouch for Beginners: Learn the basics of using these items. Bring a list of tasks you want to learn on your Apple product. The instructor will assess student needs at the first session to determine the topics for the following classes.
Middle Eastern/Belly Dance: This is a fun new way to get movement in your life. Learn the basics of the ancient art form of belly dance. No prior dance experience needed and it’s open to all ages.
Welding: Whether you’re looking for a career as a welder or for the skills to complete home projects, this class will address individual needs. Beginning and advanced students can prepare for State Certification and this course may be taken for credit. Students need steel-toe shoes and safety glasses.
Baby Sitter’s Training & CPR Certification: Designed for 11- to 15-year-olds, this course introduces the concepts of personal and infant/child safety, handling behavior problems a sitter may experience and how to succeed in a sitter interview. Students receive American Red Cross child and infant CPR and First Aid Certification valid for two years.
Watercolor Paint Party: Receive step-by-step instructions to complete a 5 x 7 picture in one relaxing night of painting. No experience is required and all supplies are included. Bring a friend and join the fun.
MSAD 52 Substitute Training: This course is one step in the substitute teacher application process for the district. Learn about school expectations, teacher’s lesson plans and assertive discipline. A high school diploma is required, college degree preferred.
