LIVERMORE — The Washburn-Norlands Living History Center will present a Valentine’s Day dinner and historical program titled “Keepers of the Hearth: A Conversation Between the Washburn Ladies” on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Enjoy a delicious heritage dinner and entertaining living history programming in a setting like no other in Maine. Tickets are $23 per person and must be purchased in advance. There is limited seating, so purchase tickets by Feb. 10 by calling 207-897-4366 or emailing norlands@norlands.org.

Arrive by 5:30 p.m. for a tour of the 1867 Washburn family mansion. A three-course dinner begins in the Farmer’s Cottage at 6 p.m. and includes squash soup, chicken with roasted potatoes and glazed carrots, biscuits and dessert. A vegetarian option is available.

After enjoying dinner, step back into the 19th-century parlor in the Washburn mansion where you will visit “Patty Washburn” and her two daughters, Martha and Caroline, portrayed by Norlands’ staff (Willi Irish, Jeannette MacDonald and Robin Hakala) in period costume. The women will share family stories of courtship, love and marriage. They will share their perspective on what it was like to tend to hearth and home, especially while their husbands were away tending to business and politics. Hear their tales of adventures in finding husbands and building their families.

The ladies of the house along with special guest “Hempstead Washburne” (portrayed by Nicol Miller, Norlands’ education coordinator) will then entertain guests with romantic music of the period, accompanied by guest Jerry Ellis on the Washburn piano.

The Norlands is located at 290 Norlands Road. For more information, visit www.norlands.org.
