According to several media reports, including People.com and TMZ, the couple released a joint statement announcing their separation.

“It is with careful consideration and mutual respect that we have decided to end our marriage,” according to the statement. “Our primary concern remains the well-being of our children, and we ask with profound gratitude that you respect our family’s privacy at this very sensitive time.”

The couple have been married for 15 years and have three children together. 

Patrick Dempsey, who grew up in Buckfield, is popular in Maine – and in Lewiston in particular, where he has maintained an active role with the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing.

Dempsey is in Lewiston each year to participate in the Dempsey Challenge, an annual walk/run/bike fundraiser to benefit the Dempsey Center.
