PORTLAND — Led by Bishop Robert P. Deeley, over 50 Maine Catholics will assemble on Wednesday, Jan. 21, and begin their journey to Washington, D.C. to participate in the 2015 March for Life, which is set for Thursday, Jan. 22, following a rally on the National Mall.
The March for Life is an annual pro-life event protesting abortion, held on or around the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision that legalized abortion in the case Roe v. Wade. Several members of Congress are expected to join the ranks as the March for Life concludes on the steps of the Supreme Court, where the Roe v. Wade ruling was delivered 42 years ago.
The Maine delegation will gather at several departure points on the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 21:
3 a.m. Bangor: St. Mary Church, 217 York St.
5 a.m. Lewiston: Holy Cross Church, 16 Saint Croix St.
5:30 a.m. Westbrook: Dunkin Donuts, 29 Main St.
6 a.m. Wells: Wells Park & Ride, Maine Turnpike, Exit 19.
The delegation will arrive at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception for the opening Mass of the National Prayer Vigil for Life at 6:30 p.m.
On Thursday, in addition to the March for Life, the group will attend the Youth Rally & Mass for Life in the morning and will join Bishop Deeley for Eucharistic adoration in the evening.
