PARIS — A Norway man has been arrested on multiple counts of felony assault charges after allegedly attacking a woman on three separate occasions over a week.
Shawn Stevens, 43, of Cottage Street was arrested by the Norway Police Department in a five-count complaint Thursday, including two counts of aggravated assault and three counts of domestic violence.
He was been charged in connection with a series of attacks on a Norway woman whom he knew between Dec. 29 and Jan. 8.
According to an affidavit, Stevens allegedly thew a frying pan at her back, slammed a door on her arm repeatedly as she tried to leave following an argument, hit her head off a microwave and choked her.
Doctors later told her she had a concussion, bruised ribs and a bruised right arm, according to police.
During a welfare check on Jan. 8, a police officer witnessed the woman returning home, apparently injured. During an interview, she stated Stevens intended to kill her, according to an affidavit.
In an interview with police, Stevens denied the accusations, stated the woman instigated violence and said he did not know what had happened on the nights in question.
Stevens made an initial court appearance in Oxford County District Court on Friday afternoon. Bail was set at $3,000 cash.
Stevens’ case has been continued to March 3 for an arraignment. Each aggravated assault charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, and the counts of domestic violence carry five years.
